You Will Need:
1 or more pounds uncooked rice
large plastic bowl or container
wooden spoons, measuring spoons, plastic cups.
Directions:
Put rice in the container with cups and spoons. Place the container on the kitchen floor for your child to practice spooning and pouring and scooping. “How many scoops does it take to fill up the cup? What does the rice feel like? How is it different from the rice we eat?”
Tip:
Rice will spill on the floor. It is easier to clean up if you place the container on a tray, shower curtain or table cloth. Keep a broom handy to sweep the floor often because rice is slippery. Explain to your child how important it is to keep the rice in this spot and not carry it anywhere else. This is a fun way for your child to be with you while you are working in the kitchen. Your child can pretend to cook dinner.
