Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a playground on-site?
Bright Horizons of Libertyville has three playgrounds on-site age appropriate for each age group.  In addition, there is an open area with benches for families to come and spend time with his or her children.
What is Bright Horizons' process on checking the background of their employees?

Bright Horizons conducts a comprehensive background check on all prospective employees and frequent visitors. The background check consists of a county criminal record check for the past seven years performed in all counties that a person has lived, worked or attended school. In addition to the county criminal search , a sex offender search, OFAC search and a social security verification trace are also conducted. For all location employees, program licensing background checks required by the state are also performed.

Each Bright Horizons center uses The World at Their Fingertips: Education for Bright Horizons, our specially-designed Curriculum that creates developmentally, culturally, and individually Appropriate learning environments in which your child can learn and prepare for academic success. The World at Their Fingertips is designed to teach children to think for themselves, solve problems, communicate, work with others and gain an increasing understanding of how the world works. Recent studies have shown that children who have attended Bright Horizons centers are extremely well-prepared for school.
How does the center resolve conflict?
In any community, and in the routine and regular process of daily living, there are inevitable situations or conflicts that are potentially negative for individuals or for the community. It is critical that long before conflict arises, an environment already exists that foster mutual respect, tolerance, and clear, honest communication. Indicative of the emotional health of a center is not the absence of conflict, but its quick and intelligent resolution.

Bright Horizons Family Solutions is committed to responding to all family grievances within a 24-hour period and to resolve those grievances as quickly as possible.

Concerns and grievances are most effectively addressed within the Family center. If a specific classroom concern arises, you should discuss the issue with the appropriate teacher. We encourage you to discuss more general center concerns with the center management, who will involve faculty members as needed.

If you feel that your problem is not yet resolved, you may wish to speak with a regional Manager. If concerns are not satisfactory resolved at this level, the Divisional Vice President is available to pursue the matter further.
Will my child move to another homebase on their birthday?
As children grow and develop, they need new challenges and social interactions with other children in their peer group. Children will make a transition to the next program based on chronological age, developmental readiness, state licensing requirements, and space availability. There is no set formula. Each homebase changes to fit the developmental characteristics of the children enrolled, and no child will ever be too young or old for the homebase.

During the transition from one program to another, current and future teachers meet with you, and your child is gently integrated into the new environment through a series of visits to the new homebase. We encourage you to visit the new homebase as often as you can so that you too can become accustomed to the environment and bond with your child’s new primary caregiver. Special attention is given to your family to support you through these changes. You are encouraged to discuss communication methods that work best for you in order to maintain ongoing dialogue throughout your child's transition.
Are all staff trained in CPR and First Aid?

All Bright Horizons staff are trained regularly in CPR, even if not required by the state. First Aid is taught as required by state licensing agency/regulations so that you can feel confident that your child is safe and receiving the best care possible at our center.

What happens if my child becomes sick?
Bright Horizons Family Solutions understand that it is difficult for a parent/guardian to leave or miss work; therefore it is suggested that alternative arrangements be made for occasions when children must remain at home or be picked up due to illness. Please refer to the Document section under Parent Resources for our Child Illness Policy.
What is NAEYC accreditation?

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has developed standards to define and recognize quality child care programs. In order to be accredited, a child care program must meet a variety of strict criteria, including having a well-trained faculty, good staff-child ratios and group sizes, and a comprehensive curriculum, as well as meet stringent health and safety standards. The program must also provide meaningful opportunities for family involvement.

What if I’d like to enroll but the center doesn’t have space available?

We suggest you register with Bright Horizons.  You can select up to 3 locations to be registered at, including the center you are most interested in.  By registering, you are confirming your strong interest in all 3 centers.  We will add you to our wait list and you will be offered a space as soon as one becomes available.  While waiting for a space to become available at your first choice location, many families will choose to enroll at their 2nd or 3rd choice temporarily until space becomes available at the center they are most interested in.  In many centers, a child currently enrolled at a Bright Horizons location has priority over the general community so enrolling at another location will not only solve your care needs but will also give you additional priority in getting into your 1st preference.  Our goal is to accommodate families as soon as space allows.  During the entire process, we will keep in touch with you regarding your status.
