Preschool Ocean Quilt Activity

The Children's Place at Phillips Academy recently held a silent auction to benefit the Bright Horizons Foundation. Since the Preschool 2 class had been studying ocean life and underwater animals, they decided to create an "Under the Sea" patchwork. Working as a team of artists, they traced animals, picked out fabric, then glued & sewed the animals into place to finish the quilt. The masterpiece raised $70 alone at the auction, and the family was even gracious enough to let the center borrow the quilt for Lowell Quilt Festival.

Pen Pals and Letters

The Kindergarten Prep class at The Children’s Place at Phillips Academy wanted to be sure to keep in touch with their extended families, especially during the holiday season. Each child wrote a letter to their grandparents asking if they could be pen pals. The children have been corresponding back and forth, utilizing their Language Works skills. After mailing the letters, the students used a globe to track where the letters were traveling to and from. As they receive mail back in their classroom, each student has the opportunity to read their letter to classmates. Besides letters, the kids have received pictures, postcards, books & games. Grandparents were also given the chance to come in for an activity, story time or to read stories via Skype to stay even more connected.
