You Will Need:
A bucket, or bag for holding collections of stones, Large paper, markers, go for a walk
Directions:
While walking encourage your child to find the smoothest stone he can find; the smallest, largest, whitest, wettest, speckled, that are shaped like a heart, etc. When you get home, make a chart of what you have found. Make labels for each rock that describe them; rough, mossy, cold, etc. Let your child copy what you have written. Look in encyclopedias or the internet to see if you can find the name of the types of rocks you found.
Tip:
This is a fun activity at a beach or near a creek but be sure to tell your child to stay in your sight at all times.
