What Parents are Saying

Our greatest advocates are also our closest friends.

"I am really thankful for all the staff in USF Family Center. Specially I am thanking Ms. Trayce (My son's class teacher) for making my son in to a smart and better person. He is enjoying his time in class and he always looking forward to come to school every day. Thank you USF Family Center... :)"

World at their Fingertips

The story behind Bright Horizons emergent curriculum

What happens when a toddler tells his teacher he loves cheetahs? Or a pre-kindergarten student asks what dinosaurs eat? At Bright Horizons®, those questions spark learning opportunities and lessons in math, reading, science, art…and more. Watch the video to see teachers and parents talk about this very unique approach toward curriculum, and how a child's very own interests become the launch pad for curiosity... and a lifetime love of learning.

Art in a Can

You Will Need:

An empty can with a lid (such as a coffee can, Pringles can or powdered formula can), paint, a piece of paper, scissors, and a round ball or object (golf ball, marble, or small wiffle ball)

Directions:

Clean out the can and then have your child cut the paper to fit inside. Have him put the paper in the can and push it against the can’s inner walls. Ask him to drop some paint into the bottom of the can, or roll the ball in paint and drop it into the can. Put the lid on and seal it with tape. Have him roll, drop, and shake the can. Then, open the can, carefully remove the paper, and show him the designs the ball created!

Tip:

This can be done with children of all ages. With infants, lay them on the floor in front of the can and let them push it, prop them up in a boppy pillow and let them kick it with their feet, or let older infants roll and drop it off of a low table. Talk to your child about what the can is doing. Say things like, "Look! You rolled it across the floor" or "Did you hear the noise it made when it fell on the floor?" Let your child explore the can by experimenting with the different sounds made by tapping the bottom and the top, trying to pull the tape off, and of course, for infants, trying to chew on the lid or bottom! When you take the paper out of the can, talk to your child about his creation. This is a really fun project with little mess!
