World at their Fingertips

The story behind Bright Horizons emergent curriculum

What happens when a toddler tells his teacher he loves cheetahs? Or a pre-kindergarten student asks what dinosaurs eat? At Bright Horizons®, those questions spark learning opportunities and lessons in math, reading, science, art…and more. Watch the video to see teachers and parents talk about this very unique approach toward curriculum, and how a child's very own interests become the launch pad for curiosity... and a lifetime love of learning.

Dinner Table Discussions

You Will Need:

Your family eating a meal together

Directions:

Dinner time is a good opportunity to reconnect after a busy day. Ask each family member, “What was the best thing that happened during your day?”

Tip:

With young children, you may need to start the conversation – share details from your day first. Be sure not to ask questions that have just "yes" or "no" answers. Make this a ritual. Children will eventually come to the meal with daily events to share.

Get involved in our Enrichment Activities

Because knowledge is more than just the ABC's.

Bright Horizons at SWEP offers the following enrichment activity inclusive with everyday programming:
  • Movement Matters is a program for infants through age five which focuses on structured physical activities. Movement Matters includes yoga geared toward all ages - infants, toddlers & preschoolers. It helps children build physical strength, flexibility, power, agility, coordination, grace & balance. Movement Matters develops strong gross motor skills while encouraging children to work together and separately to achieve their goals.
  • Cooking encourages children to taste, smell, touch, listen, and observe at each step of the process. Cooking is both science and math. Children explore the scientific and mathematical properties of measuring, mixing, and the transformation of raw ingredients when they become something new when cooked.
  • Computer Center is a child choice area in our preschool and kindergarten prep programs. We offer daily computer time so children can become comfortable with 21st century technology.
