During the month of February the children of Preschool and Kindergarten Prep classes worked on a series of S.T.E.M projection activities based on wheels. Each class worked on projects throughout the month to give them a better understanding of the origin, mechanics and uses of wheels. The children used a set of items to see which would roll and which could not and why.
KPrep made derby cars out of wood by sanding, cutting, gluing, and painting the pieces. After assembling the cars the children raced them! We talked about how axles hold two wheels on a car together, and wristwatches and clocks use wheels with teeth called gears!
The preschoolers walked around the Cummings Center pointing out the various wheels they found, and the KPrep children used a camera to take pictures from their point of view! The children showed off all they learned in our Preschool/KPrep preview showcase.
