  • The Wonder Project

    Hands-on Nature Exploration

The children at Bright Horizons at Beacon Hill have been participating in The Wonder Project, a hands-on exploration of items found in nature. Project based work allows for children to engage in long term exploration of a topic or skill. The teachers developed weekly curriculum to pique the children's continued interest in the study of the world around them.

The children participated in activities such as:

*Leaf Rubbing- exposing the texture of various different leaves through crayon rubbings

*Sink or Float- exploring the properties of items found in nature by testing whether they sink or float when added to water

*Forming Letters- using sticks, leaves, and stones, the children formed and identified various letters

*Stone Stacking- engaging their STEM cells, the children explored with balance as they stacked stones and placed them in rows

*Nature Walk- the children participated in a nature walk around the neighborhood, identifying and collecting objects found in nature to explore in the classroom

  • Jumpstart's Read for the Record

    Quackers by Liz Wong

Bright Horizons at Beacon Hill will be participating in Jumpstart's Read for the Record on October 19, 2017.  Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience — bringing together over 2 million people each year in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and homes across the US. This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child, so that all children have the opportunity to enter kindergarten prepared to succeed.

Quackers is a delightful story about a kitten who grows up believing he’s a duck, until the days he meets another kitten. What follows is a sweet tale about understanding, acceptance, and learning it’s ok to be whoever you want to be.

The teachers at the center will be planning a curriculum in order to bring the story to life.
