How can I learn more about Bright Horizons?

What other fees are required? 

In addition to the tuition, you will be required to pay the following: 

  • Registration Fee: A non-refundable registration fee of $100 is due upon submission of the enrollment interest form.  After the enrollment interest period ends, families will be contacted by a Bright Horizons representative to discuss enrollment or wait list status. 

  • Enrollment Deposit: An enrollment deposit equal to two weeks tuition will be due when the enrollment offer is accepted. The enrollment deposit will be applied to the first two weeks of tuition. If a family chooses not to enroll their child after accepting the enrollment offer, the enrollment deposit will be forfeited. 

  • Annual Re-Registration Fee: A $50 fee per child will be required each subsequent year to cover annual administrative and licensing fees. 

When can I tour the center?

Tours will be available in the fall. 

Is part-time child care available at the center?

Initially, only full-time care will be offered.  Part-time slots (full-time slots shared by two different families)  may be considered in the future based on center availability.    

What are the child drop off/pick up procedures?

Families will have access to the building through your St. Jude badge.  You can enter a guarded Parking lot provided in the rear of the building.  There is also street parking in front of the building if available.  You will use your badge to enter the building.  We are working on a system for non-St. Jude employees/parents who will be proving the drop off and pick up.

When is the center scheduled to open?

The center is expected to open in November 2024 contingent upon receipt of an operating license from the Tennessee state licensor. 

  

What will the hours of operation be?

The center will be open Monday through Friday from 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. It will remain open year-round; closing only on the days St. Jude is closed.

Can you provide more background on Bright Horizons?

Bright Horizons' core business is employer-sponsored care. They were founded more than 30 years ago and now partner with more than 1,000 employers across the U.S., as well as in Europe, Canada and India. Their client list includes more than three-fourths of the companies on Working Mother magazine’s “100 Best” list. In addition, their client list includes more than half of those named to FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Bright Horizons has also been named to the FORTUNE list 19 times. Bright Horizons is an organization recognized for ethics, collaboration, community service and excellence in the child care industry. When can I meet the Bright Horizon’s child care center director? 

The director will be employed by Bright Horizons and will be hired over the summer.  The director will conduct multiple meet-and-greet sessions with employees on campus this summer/fall.   

Are you getting parent input?

Yes. We've formed a Parent Advisory Group to provide input before the center opening. This group will meet about three times. After opening, Bright Horizons will form the Parent Partnership Group. To be considered for the Parent Partnership Group, you must have at least one child enrolled at the center. Bright Horizons will provide additional details post opening.

What are the qualities and qualifications of the teaching and care staff?

Bright Horizons works to recruit and hire the highest quality teachers. Their staff are nurturers as well as educators who encourage learning through exploration and partnership with parents. They’re trained to deliver the highest standard of care. All candidates undergo a thorough screening, including a Bright Horizons enhanced background check and state-required background checks. All teachers must meet state educational licensing and additional center requirements. 

What resources does Bright Horizons offer to families?

Can I reserve a spot now in the center? 

Enrollment opened up on August 5th. To begin the registration process for your child, visit Bright Horizons’ Family Information Center to sign-up and submit the registration fee of $100.00.    

 

What are the tuition rates and how were they determined?

The monthly first year tuition rates listed below were established in alignment with comparable, high-quality child care centers in the surrounding area. Each year, Bright Horizons will conduct an extensive market study to determine the appropriate annual tuition rates.

How will enrollment spaces be allocated?

Families who register this summer will receive an enrollment update at least 60 days prior to opening in the fall and will receive a confirmation enrollment offer or notification of waitlist for their child’s age group.  If there is more interest than space available, enrollment will be determined via lottery pull once the initial registration period has closed. 

  

How does Bright Horizons ensure the health and safety of families and staff?

At all Bright Horizons centers, rigorous health and safety practices are a foundation of the way they care for children. These include: 

  • An illness and daily health check policy that strives to mitigate the spread of illnesses 

  • Frequent cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces and toys; frequent laundering of soft items  

  • Regular maintenance of the center, equipment and supplies; updating and replacing items as needed  

  • Secure entrances to all centers  

  • Strict handwashing and sanitary policies to prevent the spread of illnesses  

  • Curriculum that emphasizes healthy practices for children 

Strict safety and security procedures are designed to keep families and staff protected.  

We will also have a Director of Health and Safety. St. Jude Security will also provide security guards. 

What is Bright Horizons' process on checking the background of their employees?

Bright Horizons conducts a comprehensive background check on all prospective employees and frequent visitors. The background check consists of a county criminal record check for the past seven years performed in all counties that a person has lived, worked or attended school. In addition to the county criminal search , a sex offender search, OFAC search and a social security verification trace are also conducted. For all location employees, program licensing background checks required by the state are also performed.

What curriculum will be used at the center?

What are the educational goals of Bright Horizons?

Are all staff trained in CPR and First Aid?

All Bright Horizons staff are trained regularly in CPR, even if not required by the state. First Aid is taught as required by state licensing agency/regulations so that you can feel confident that your child is safe and receiving the best care possible at our center.

Can I visit my child at the center anytime I’d like to?

Yes, Bright Horizons has an open door policy.  You are encouraged to visit your child anytime.

How do I enroll my child?

Bright Horizons plans to open initial registration on August 5. Once the initial registration period is open, you will register with Bright Horizons through its Family Information Center and submit a $100 registration fee per child.  After the initial registration period ends, families will be contacted by a Bright Horizons representative to discuss pre-enrollment.  More information about the enrollment process will be available soon. The ratios at the center are designed to support one-on-one interactions between the teachers and children; an in- depth understanding by the teachers of the individual needs of each child; and the formulation of consistent care-giving routines based on the teachers’ knowledge of the individual children. These teacher-to-child ratios also support enhanced development, particularly language development. 

What ages does the center serve?

The child care center has capacity for 188 children ages 6 weeks through 5 years old.  

  

Who is eligible to enroll in the center?

St. Jude regular employees who are benefit-eligible and have a designated status of 60% or more of full-time are eligible to enroll their legally dependent children.  Enrollment is not open to contractors or the community.

Yes meals and snacks will be provided every day.  

Does the center offer dedicated enrichment spaces? 

Yes, the center has a dedicated STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Lab, as well as an Art Studio. 

Does Bright Horizons perform background checks on its employees?

The safety of the children in our care is our highest concern.  Bright Horizons maintains stringent hiring practices and conducts criminal background checks on all teachers and caregivers in our centers. This check includes a criminal record search and a cross-reference check to determine prior convictions or other records of criminal activity that would call into question an employee’s’ suitability to care for children. Additional elements of our required background checks include verification through the Office of Foreign Asset Control and Sexual Offender Database Search. The frequency for updating criminal background checks for employees depends on state or other center-specific requirements.

What is NAEYC accreditation?

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has developed standards to define and recognize quality child care programs. In order to be accredited, a child care program must meet a variety of strict criteria, including having a well-trained faculty, good staff-child ratios and group sizes, and a comprehensive curriculum, as well as meet stringent health and safety standards. The program must also provide meaningful opportunities for family involvement.
